Review on Enhance Your Cycling Experience with the Topeak Explorer Rack by Mike Campbell

Hard rack but DO NOT USE WITH CHILD SEAT

I used this rack with a Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi on my Specialized Rockhopper with disc brakes to take my 30 lb son to work for about a year and a half to commute way with good results until the bolt holding the bracket to the frame suddenly snapped while my son was on it! Luckily the rest of the rack survived until I could stop. I would have thought that a 30lb child with a 5lb car seat would be well under the advertised 55lb limit, but unfortunately that's not the case. Attempting to replace the bolt while pulling out what was left stripped the threads, now rendering every post on the frame useless. I have contacted Topeak and they have replied that this chassis is not designed for use with strollers and therefore should not be used as such (as stated in the instructions) and such damage is not covered under warranty. I want the ad to specifically mention this before I make a purchase. Perhaps it's Thule's fault for advertising their seats as usable with "strong rear shelves". However, as with anything involving your children, be extra careful!
