UPDATE: The metal back plate is held in place by an adhesive which then dissolves when heated. DO NOT BUY! I have a CD holder I got here a while back with a detachable magnetic "claw" to hold the phone. Since I couldn't find a version of MagSafe, I looked for an adapter instead and found this one. It does exactly what I hoped it would. It holds the phone well while driving, but the adapter stays attached to the phone when I remove it from the mount. A little lateral pressure with your thumb is enough to release it. Excellent! Note. As stated in the product images, you really need a MagSafe compatible case. The adapter didn't stick well to the phone when I tested it on a non-MagSafe case. There is no star deduction for this because it was stated very clearly as a requirement.
