Beautiful classic AlNiCo cow magnets.
The poles are at the rounded ends, so the magnetic field is strongest there. Remember that AlNiCo magnets are moderate strength, but are easily demagnetized by other strong magnets. If you give them to children who want to see if they are strong enough to connect the same poles, the magnets will weaken after this type of abuse. Ferrite/ceramic magnets don't demagnetize as easily, but AlNiCo magnets are physically stronger and don't crack or break as easily as ferrite/ceramic magnets.
