These magnets are great. I played with them as a kid and I can tell you that nothing sparks a child's interest in science like two powerful polarized magnets! They probably work wonders for metal-eating cows too :)

Years ago I fed my dear daughter one of these. I hoped the magnet would protect her delicate intestinal tract from nails or barbed wire she might swallow like our bovine friends do. Big mistake. My little girl could have been saved from an intestinal perforation, but now that she's an adult, she lives a life of vice and depravity. It seems that the strong magnetic field has thrown their moral compass completely off balance.

The poles are at the rounded ends, so the magnetic field is strongest there. Remember that AlNiCo magnets are moderate strength, but are easily demagnetized by other strong magnets. If you give them to children who want to see if they are strong enough to connect the same poles, the magnets will weaken after this type of abuse. Ferrite/ceramic magnets don't demagnetize as easily, but AlNiCo magnets are physically stronger and don't crack or break as easily as ferrite/ceramic magnets.
