I use this in my car to help with a very specific situation. I have a 2014 BMW 5 Series with iPhone via USB interface. However, a USB port in a car only outputs 1 amp, and most modern phones are rated for more than 2 amps. This leads to very unstable operation of the interface - either the phone turns off, or the application crashes, or does not work at all. This is probably true for many different vehicles that are several years old. What I did was buy this USB hub and plug it into the car's USB port. I then connected the power input on this USB hub to a small 12v cigarette lighter/plug adapter. Then I plug my iPhone into one of the ports on the USB hub. This allows the phone to talk to the car through the USB hub, but be powered through the USB hub, which is powered through the 12V power adapter. I hope that makes sense. In my case, this made the BMW interface *MUCH* more stable - like it worked all the time when it was completely unusable in the past. I'm not sure if this works for anyone. yet, but I thought it was worth sharing that it worked for me!
