Unreal.real.: Lenses

Bought this lens 2 days ago. I photograph architecture and have been dealing with this for a long time. I have a large number of L lenses at the moment and usually use either the 24mm TS-E or the 17mm TS-E for tasks like the ones I photographed today. 24 is awesome. 17 less, but necessary in a pinch. I bought this lens for the wider coverage, reports of minimal barrel distortion, and autofocus. I thought this might be a good option for indoors where I can press the lens against the wall and get a nice wide field of view. Well, let me tell you. this thing is amazing. GREAT!. Tonight I had to photograph the interior (lobby/bar) of a large cinema complex. The client (architect) wanted nice shots of his work with people walking around. I usually do this with one of my trusty TS-E lenses. I adjust the frame, manual focus. I check once or twice and then spend a few minutes at this location taking photos before moving on to the next location. Today I had to be faster. The owner of the house agreed to only let me take pictures for about half an hour. Quite a lot of time. So I decided to buy it hoping that the autofocus would speed up the process. Before I set off, I took some test shots in my studio. I put my camera (5d mk ii) on a medium sized tripod and this 14mm Beauty.Set on AF, +/- f16 to be on the safe side and I just walked around in circles in a large area and took pictures (by a bag master). ) when humans moved through space. Sometimes I stopped to take multiple exposures, but mostly I just took single shots hoping I could fix it in the post. I never work like that. And the thought of using autofocus on architecture shots seemed crazy. In any case, I returned to my studio and immediately realized that everything had gone well. The images were sharp front and back and the color was perfect. Far more impressive was the degree to which the images were perfectly straight, with no barrel distortion. Of the 24 images I just processed, only 3 needed corrections from the lens, and this was due to pilot error in the field, not the lens. My TS-E lenses are my outer lenses from now on. If you photograph architecture, you need this lens. This is real magic. IMPRESSIVE! Good. Will be added here after 5 months. I'm still excited about this lens. Have used it countless times at work and for fun. releases 15mm f2.8. Probably an amazing lens but I have no idea how it can beat the Canon 14. Update - It's probably been over two years at this point and I still love this lens, but I'll tone down the exuberance in the original review. I still mostly use 24mm and 17mm TS-E lenses for indoor shots. The 14 comes in handy in particularly tight scenarios or when space seems to call for a wide view (just used it for a cinema shoot yesterday). I am also deeply impressed by the lack of lens distortion and the surprisingly sharp full field of focus even at f-11/13 etc. This is an impressive lens.
