The radio you've always wanted - it's here

Before I do this first review, let me say that I've only had the HD1 for a few weeks, but I think I've learned enough about it to give an honest opinion. I must also point out that Retevis' (Angela) customer service has been second to none since my purchase. I had some issues with the software but their help, along with some trial and error and watching a number of YouTube videos about the control panel and software, has now allowed me to fully enjoy the transceiver. The build quality of the HD1 will impress you immediately. I have used Motorola radios for forty years and have waited many years for a quality non-Motorola ham radio. Finally he has arrived. The sound quality at high volume will not disappoint you. The battery life was exceptional. Although I've only used reception so far, the battery lasts for several days before needing to be recharged. The backlight has an "always on" setting, which in my experience has very little impact on battery drain. I was a little frustrated when I first tried programming the radio via software. Do not give up. Update firmware. Make sure you have installed the correct drivers for your Windows operating system. Exit DFU mode, start the programming software, turn on the radio, make sure the correct COM port is selected and everything should work smoothly. My first week with the radio was annoying, but nothing more. A software CD along with a cable would be of great help. I was using the radio to monitor public safety frequencies in my area and noticed what I call "Geiger counter" noise coming into my local police UHF and fire department frequencies. There is no noise when using my Yaesu FT-50. Could this be a superhet vs direct conversion function? I've been trying to research this issue and I have to report that I've been using the Diamond SRH805S Extender for all my radios for the past few weeks. My on-the-go programming experience from the front panel was easy. Controlling the radio via the menu becomes easy once you get the hang of it. This is the radio you need anywhere, along with the Repeater Book app and a good list of your state's police and fire frequencies. I haven't used the radio enough to do a full review, but so far I haven't found any issues that make the buyer regret it. DMR is new to me and I haven't tested this aspect of the radio. I am completely satisfied with my purchase and would like to thank Retevis Customer Service for their commitment to customers. Firmware and software are constantly updated and improved. Thanks very much!
