I did it the hard way. Of course, on a hot day, the fan stopped. Pulled the drag and it looked bad. I disconnected the fan motor from the battery using "crocodile" type wires. The fan motor rotates. I swapped the resistor and was happy for a day then it stopped again. Furnace motor replaced, now back on our feet. I had to replace both the resistor and the fan motor at the same time. Not expensive and definitely a must have on a hot day. The original fan and resistor lasted 14 years. I don't have to replace any of them with a bathrobe again.
