Review on ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Garmin nuvi 1350 Series โ€“ 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Brad Blake

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The screen went blank during a 600 mile drive!

I bought it when it first came out for $299. Great combination of features, I particularly like the street name reading, widescreen, speed limit and lane assist because they really minimize the time you take your eyes off the road. didn't say street names which meant you had to take your eyes off the street. I don't really like the trend of adding unnecessary bells and whistles like an MP3 player, 3D building view, intersection view, voice commands (how could that be anything other than a source of frustration in a kid's train car?), especially since they seem to be on cost of LOSSING A MORE IMPORTANT BASIC GPS FUNCTION will be added! I agree with the reviewer who laments the loss of old map details, city names, lakes, etc. on newer devices. It's like riding the moon! One of the fun things about GPS is that it lets you know your surroundings while driving ("Oh cool, there's a lake!"). You really feel your surroundings, almost as if you are flying over them. "Fatal flaw" for this device is that in the middle of a 600 mile trip it just stalled and wouldn't turn on (tried 3 suggestions: hold down the power button, hold down the power button , while clicking in the bottom right corner of the screen, connect to the computer - by the way, this is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions!) Only the connection to the computer worked (not very convenient on the go!) One reviewer suggested that this happened when the device overheated , I've had it on the windshield (with the AC on!) so this is possible, but when it happens in Minnesota in the summer it makes the unit so unreliable that it's unusable. My 200 series took me through hot Texas with no problems. Thanks Revane for a great return policy!
