We bought a £5 bag of Chunks first - it was a great deal and I only used the newest ones.

My family of five has been using NaturOli soap nuts for three years. We bought a £5 bag of Chunks first - it was a great deal and I just used the last one from that bag today. If you're buying a large pack of pieces, it really doesn't matter. They shell just as well as whole nuts, most are whole anyway. Just bought the next bag and ended up buying this £4 bag because it had free shipping and the big bag of parts didn't. The large bag of chunks comes in a plastic bag with a couple of muslin bags for washing the soap nuts. This 4 pound sack was packaged in a large muslin bag as shown, along with four smaller laundry bags, a soap nut leaflet and a small bottle of concentrated laundry liquid. Here's how I use soap nuts for best results. I started using them with cloth diapers but now we use them on all our clothes. I've found that I don't like muslin laundry bags. They are a bit thick and the lace is difficult to untie after several washes. I stuff a handful of soap nuts, about five or six, into old knotted tights. I have a front loading HE washing machine so it works best when it's full. For better distribution, I placed three bags of tights in different places on the underwear. I set the pre-soak mode to release a lot of saponin into the water. You do not have to remove the soap nuts at any point during the wash cycle. The saponin released during the rinse cycle acts as a fabric softener. I have NEVER used fabric softener so when we first started using soap nuts I was constantly feeling my clothes because they were so silky and soft. I also use soap nuts to clean. I cleaned the porch and washed the car. Just throw something in a bucket of water. It won't look very fluffy, but it works. For example, I used to hose down my front porch to prepare it for repainting. It still looked dirty even though the water was clear so I decided to put some soap nuts in a bucket of water and see if that worked. There were hardly any blisters, but when I started rubbing, gray muddy water started running off the porch and the color on the porch looked a lot lighter. A note for people who are used to washing with chemical detergents and perfumed detergents: Soapnuts do not remove dirt. in mud and oil. Dirty socks and clothes stay clean but dirty. I keep an environmentally friendly detergent ready for these clothes. Soapnuts are great for everyday underwear and cloth diapers. In addition, soap nuts have an odor. If you're used to strong perfume smells, you probably won't notice anything. We used to wash with fragrance-free detergents, so the first thing I noticed was the smell of my clothes, a kind of herbal smell. I don't notice it anymore.
