After losing my old vacuum pump in Hurricane Harvey I had to buy another to install the vintage Air A/C system in my '65 Chevy C10 truck. To make sure there were no leaks in my installation, I plugged in the pump and turned it on for about 15 minutes. He lowered the vacuum to -30 pounds, which was great. I then turned off the pump to make sure the system was holding a vacuum. I watched as the needle slowly rose back to 0. This made me very frustrated as I thought there was a leak somewhere in my system. It turned out that the pump was leaking. Not wanting to mess around with returning and buying another possibly faulty pump, I installed a 3/8 inch ball valve in the vacuum line between the pump and the gauges. After creating a vacuum at -30, I closed the valve. Vacuum for 24 hrs. I then opened the valve and watched the vacuum drop back to 0. Once again a cheap Chinese product with no explicit quality control or guarantee.
