These lag screws are typical quality for grade 2 screws. From a bag of 50 using a 1/8" pilot hole in the wood for the fur frame I snapped two heads while tightening materials manually. These errors had more to do with the likely collision with the node than with the quality of the bolt. The failure rate is lower than I expected and is typical of the jobsite. I recommend using a pilot hole appropriate for your material, using an impact tool/gun to drive the bolt in before it hits the washer, and then using a Ratchet. You'll feel a lot better when the material is in place, and you have less risk of overtightening the screw than if you torqued it with a machine.
