When my old laptop died, I decided I was done with Microsoft and bought a Chromebook. A GREAT move that I'm very happy with, apart from the lack of USB ports for external hard drives and other devices. I removed the hard drive from my old laptop and optical drive and put both in a case to use with a Chromebook via USB but this caused the machine to freeze and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse to not work, while the hard drive was connected. did a little research and found that I probably needed a self-powered USB hub for external devices. I ordered this one (4 power ports and one for charging) and it seems to be working great. I'm writing this review while the old hard drive is being copied to another external one. So I use TWO external hard drives on my Chromebook and it works really well. A couple of very short breaks, but I'm quite happy. And now I have more ports! The blue lights on it stay on until you turn off the device connected to it. This is perhaps my only complaint. The lights seem to be bright. I wish I could disable them without deregistering the devices. Excellent value for money and quality.
