Rock Solid after several tries

I installed this at my parents house in hopes of reducing the number of "support calls" I had to make when their cheap WiFi router decided to make one to take the day off. It's been installed for a few months now and has 100% uptime with no crashes, glitches or issues. From that point of view it was a success and worth the price. === Good stuff ===* As mentioned above, it's been rock solid since install. Modem, router and WAP are connected to the UPS, so power failures are not a problem. Once, when Comcast's Internet went down, a quick power cycle of the router immediately brought the entire network back, including this WAP. * The style is nice, especially the feature that allows you to turn off the progress bar. The ceiling mount keeps the router out of the way, and the unsightly antennas don't clutter up the room.* Using good old Comcast Internet, speeds through this device were about the same as wired connections to the router. (sorry I lost the piece of paper I wrote down the actual numbers on). === Not good ===* There are about 8 ways to mount the bracket on the ceiling and route the ethernet cable. I tried 7 wrong ways before I found the right one. It's obvious once you've done it, but easy enough to screw up. Instructions aren't very helpful - a template would be great.* Installation went fine - first time. I tried WAP while sitting right next to the router. When I moved it to the ceiling it took all sorts of reboots and power outages to finally connect. The included software is a little unclear as to what is actually happening and I called Uncle and contacted tech support. The technician took local control of my computer and quickly wiped my router settings. After wrestling with this for an hour, I tracked down an unreliable cable issue that somehow allowed me to do a DoS attack on my own router. After replacing the cable, everything went smoothly. === Summary === If you do everything right, the installation and configuration will not be difficult. If you run into problems, you'll learn a thing or two about the IP protocol. Once it works, it becomes reliable. === Update 05/23/17 === WAP has been running for over 6 months and exactly 0 support tickets. If only all internet technologies would work.
