Review on Simpson SPS25344 KT Storm πŸŒ€ Panel Screws: Unmatched Durability and Performance by Doug Hook

Revainrating 4 out of 5

They work but are quite difficult to install

These fasteners work well but use caution when setting them in concrete. During installation I broke some of these in half. As they penetrate the concrete, the drill will slow down. If you don't stop, they will bend and fall off. You have to move and send them back a few times. Some of them just don't fit all the way in and after some experience I've found that if you keep pressing on them they shear off. So I had to shorten some of them by about 3/8 inch. The good news is that they are fairly easy to cut with a hacksaw. I don't like short hats either. Another 1/4 inch longer would help. This would allow me to expose most of the fasteners and make installation easier. Eventually I found that some of the fasteners were loose and I was able to wiggle them back and forth a bit. I believe that the constant withdrawal and re-posting of them has eroded the concrete on some of them. I found they were tightened by wrapping a short piece of tape around the steps and reattaching them. I'm sure none of this would be a problem if you drilled them into wood.

Pros
  • Panel Screws
Cons
