and the rotor is fine. The distributor cap did not fit properly.

Cables, spark plugs, points, condenser, rotor all right. The distributor cap did not fit snugly on the distributor - it is very loose. I ordered a second one and had the same problem. I am working on a Cub Lo-Boy 154 with distributor IH.
