Comfortable but a bit big
My 9 year old wears a size M/8 and they seem a bit big everywhere (see my photo). They have a bow in the front to make them tighter, but as these are just comfy indoor shorts you'll be fine. If he runs or something, they fall over and he has to keep pulling them up. The fabric is very comfortable, dense cotton, thanks to which the shorts are warmer.
