I like this Garmin GPS. I'm an electrical engineer so I usually do a lot of product research before making any major purchasing decisions, especially when it comes to new technology. I did this for this purchase as I was replacing our Garmin nuvi 1690 that we had given to some friends. I switched to this device because we were going on holiday abroad to Brazil and I wanted to take a GPS that was newer and compatible with international maps. I made sure this unit was compatible with Brazil maps before purchasing and I love the Garmin 2599LMTHD's combination of size and features. I liked the features of digital traffic and lifetime map updates. I purchased the downloadable Brazil maps directly from the Garmin website. We took this device and installed maps on a 1+ week trip to Brazil and it worked great and every time we drove our rental car it was top notch. If you are traveling to Brazil you MUST have a GPS with maps as it is VERY easy to take wrong turns in Brazil as the roads and signs are not as well marked as in the US or other countries around the world. Also, some big cities have very dangerous areas and it would be advisable to have a GPS device to help you navigate. I use a Gilsson case (see my other reviews) for this GPS unit and this is the third time I have bought this particular case. I also bought a screen protector and Garmin AC adapter for the GPS so I can charge it in hotel rooms if I need to use it on battery only without a car adapter. The device comes with a car adapter and an open micro SD slot for GPS maps or memory cards. I bought the 5" version of the unit because I didn't want anything too big or it wouldn't fit in my case. The menu system for this unit wasn't much different from my old Garmin nuvi 1690 so it didn't take long to until I figured out the menu system.I was able to pre-store all the important locations in Brazil in the GPS unit so when we went on vacation in the country the unit was ready and in place from day one.Overall I highly recommend this Garmin 2599LMTHD GPS Highly recommend Navigator and I would recommend getting localized maps for international travel. You can't appreciate the security you get by spending $40 or $50 on additional maps when you know you can get anywhere with ease can navigate in a foreign country with this device.
