High pressure pump and seems to run in overheat protection mode for some time with no shutdown. I accidentally left it to fill the fountain for probably an hour with no problems. The pressure switch works normally when the system is closed. The only problem with this purchase is the cheap plastic connectors that come with it. The threads break very easily because the plastic is soft and pliable. If this pump lasts a few years I'll probably replace it with the same pro tip: If your outboard is overheating due to a clogged cooling system gauge, this pump will cool it down when connected to the outboard flush line. That task alone was worth it.
