I have air dried (2 years) some white oak boards about 2" thick. I didn't know if I should trust my pin meter so I tried this one. I set it to "White Oak", 3/4 deep and got readings between 9% and 11%. That's about right for New England air drying. With an oven I could dry it to the recommended 6% but I'll go ahead and grind it as is. This counter worked right out of the box and gave me the confidence to proceed with this batch of boards we worked so hard to route (with a chainsaw).
