I took a 10-year break from my hobby due to some circumstances and am just getting back into reef aquaristics. LED lighting has really caught on since the metal halide days I'm used to. Quality lighting is outrageously priced, but more budget options are popping up. This is one of the best options I've come across since getting back into the hobby. I'm using it on Fluval 13.5, which might seem like an overkill, and it is, but the ability to dim the lights made it perfect. What I really dislike about LED lighting is the disco ball effect. Individual LEDs shine at different angles, creating shadows and an unnatural flickering effect that I really don't like. I have found that this light actually minimizes this effect due to the design of the lens. This is similar to Kessil flashlights with an LED cluster and a large lens for each of the two clusters. I am very happy with it. I also run it at about 20% of its rated power which gives me a lot of overhead and also keeps the light cool. Heat means death for LEDs, and lower temperatures mean they last longer. I plan to increase the size of my tank and when I do I plan to add one more of these lights. I hope they're still available when I'm ready, I've been keeping an eye on them and they seem to be selling out fast. I hope the company stays and continues to offer these quality lights at a good price!
