Panasonic FZ-G1: great rugged tablet (+1 for Lombard's Proton Computers)

These 'refurbished' Windows tablets are a real find (note I didn't buy this particular offer, it's gone now). I was looking for a tablet with easily swappable batteries. , decent SSD size, microSD port, at least one USB port, Bluetooth, good WiFi and pretty solid. They are VERY solid (and therefore bulky). SSD, supports at least 128GB microSD (the largest I've tried) and has two sizes of removable batteries (one compact and one larger that protrudes a bit at the back) Note that they've been in (I think) 5 series these years were produced. They all seem to be using the same batteries, so battery availability is good (mine is "M2" and originally came with Windows 8, now "refurbished" with a certified Windows 10 installation that works very well (with all the usual Windows 10 -Annoyed)...but that's not the computer's fault.) While the included lanyard stylus with storage slot works fine (as does my finger), I typically use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, which work very well and less often These toughpads are now about 2 months old and are expected to last for years (since they already serve their previous company owner!) Proton also supplied two different docks: an iKey keyboard dock with an additional USB port and a desktop docking station with 2 USB ports, HDMI and VGA display ports, Ethernet port and serial port, they also supplied extra batteries Arti kel: Accessories for FZ-G1 le are available at reasonable prices from Proton and others here at Revain and elsewhere. Point two: With a docking station, or maybe some Bluetooth peripherals, this toughpad can do double duty as a Windows laptop or compact desktop. Both had (removable but very durable) hand/palm rests on the back, both had a Verizon cellular module and software (which I won't be using, so I don't know if it actually works - it's still picking up a signal) . One had a top handle (very handy) and a credit card scanner (again not in use). The thing is, you can get some "add-ons" depending on what they have on hand and meet the advertised specs. Both had blank screens (and include boot screen protectors), with very little expected evidence of previous use elsewhere on the tablet. I bought 2 of these refurbished Panasonic FZ-G1 (M2) ToughPads from Proton Computers of Lombard. Also a few peripherals and extra batteries mentioned above. One tablet had a hidden but important flaw. They replaced it immediately. Friendly excellent customer service and they even added a few surprise extras to both deliveries! The Panasonc FZ-G1 is a refreshing change from today's thin consumer Windows tablets, with impossible-to-replace batteries and questionable durability. If you want a computer that can stand up to the real world, that you can take with you, indoors and out, and actually use it for 'real' computers that Windows PCs can but phones and small tablets can hardly or not at all do with it is an "old school" solution that works - and is still in production (of course in a slightly updated form with a BIG new price). A Windows tablet for those who value functionality over fashion.

Pros
  • USB 3.0 and HDMI; optional dedicated GPS, serial port, Ethernet, MicroSD or 2nd USB port
