Review on Neewer Telephoto Lens Support Bracket: Enhance Stability for Long-Focus Photography with Tripod by Chad Aguirre

Incredible lens support! Intelligently designed!

*updated 6/7/20. See comments at the end. I bought this lens mount because I have a 420-800mm lens without a tripod mount. Although the lens is quite light, it is still too heavy to use without additional support, especially when using the 2x converter and photographing the moon. Trying to focus the lens and get the moon in the frame proved particularly difficult. I haven't had the chance to shoot with a lens-carrying rig, but I can already say that the construction of this rig is solid. . It snaps firmly into place so your camera and lens don't move at all. Because it's an Arca plate system, it's very flexible, so you can customize it the way you need it for your purposes. necessary. By removing the security screw on the vertical plate I was able to lower it much lower and removing the security screw is not a problem as it is designed to only slide to the bottom, with or without this screw. However, Arca's design allows you to rotate the horizontal plate and still remain fully functional. You just have to turn the vertical plate upside down. In this configuration, the vertical plate offers more clearance and can be lowered even further if required. The long horizontal plate length gives you enough latitude to mount longer lenses. It comes with a 50mm arca plate to attach to the camera body. myself. The screw doesn't slip, which strikes me as odd, but I won't downgrade the rating for that. I don't actually use this mounting plate at all. I have so many others that are longer which gives me a lot more flexibility in the distance from the camera body to the lens base plate. I actually use a 140mm knot guide plate so I can also use the Arca rectangular plate which allows me to turn the camera on its side. You don't have to use these other types of cymbals with this rig. I only mention them to illustrate how flexible Arca design can be. What's included is enough to get you started. Another thing I like is that I can also use it with my 75-300 lens, which again can be a little awkward when trying to focus and keep the subject in frame, especially with a 2x -Converter. I can even use it with my 500mm lens that has a tripod mount. Because of the way it's designed I can leave my camera mounted and switch lenses with less lag time between shots than detaching my camera from my 500mm lens, removing the lens from my tripod, another attaching the lens to my camera and then mounting my camera on a tripod. This setup allows me to work faster and ultimately safer: having the camera always securely mounted allows me to retract my lenses properly with the front and rear lens caps on and not have to worry about the camera falling. or wobble when temporarily hung around the neck or shoulder. The tripod should have an Arca style mount. I'm not sure the Manfrotto style holds the Arca plates securely enough. I'm also not sure if the Manfrotto style will "hook" the security screws on the Arca plate bottle should the setup slip, so use the Manfrotto style head at your own risk. This is a fairly heavy setup and will add significantly to the weight of your camera and lens, so I don't recommend using it on a ball head tripod. I think trying to adjust the angle will be frustrating. I would recommend using it on a regular pan/tilt head or the gimbal head I use. fired. This setting allows you to support your lenses and maintain your center of gravity so your tripod is properly balanced. And the price is very affordable, less than $50. I'd like to add photos, but apparently Revain removed that option. I hope they restore this as it is extremely helpful in illustrating the product beyond what is provided by the seller. Update - Revain finally allowed photos to be taken again so I added a photo. The nodal rail that is on the rig (but not included) is 200mm long. I have another lens that is even longer than this setup can support with that 200mm hub rail. I have to correct what I said above that I must have a bow mount to use this. That is not true. It has threaded holes on the bottom plate, so you can mount it on any plate with 1/4" or 3/8" screws. However, it is much more secure when clipped into the Arca mount. I also recently discovered that the double sided Arca mount can be taken apart and reoriented so the mounts are perpendicular instead of parallel. Or you can use the two halves separately as separate mounts like you see on the ball head mount. Again, incredibly versatile. It's like the Swiss army knife of camera mounting systems.
