Revainrating 5 out of 5

metal case; only 300 joules overvoltage protection

Conclusion: There are basically two socket strips with 5 sockets in one housing. Observations: The first thing that caught my eye were two aluminum rivets on the corner of the case. I couldn't figure out what they were for, so I opened up the case, which was held in place with 2.3mm triangular screws. The two end caps are made of plastic, while the top and bottom are made of anodized aluminum. Rivets secure green ground wires to chassis; There are two of these so the top and bottom shells are effectively grounded as both shells are anodized which is the level of isolation. Recommendations: 300 J (J) overvoltage rating is very low; An internet search says you need at least 1000 joules, so you can essentially think of this as a power strip with no surge protection. Advantages: aluminum housing; decent fit and finish. Cons: only 300J surge protection; The wiring at the plastic connector on the side of the cable is a bit dirty, the ground wires are on top of the power wires. and power cords near or in contact with ground lugs (side). If the splitter is subjected to vibration, the cable insulation can eventually deteriorate, causing a short circuit. The opposite end cap with a ground wire is a much better setup. Verdict: For $30, this is a 4 star rating.
