Ideal for furniture when space is tight.

later When using screws in wood you can use as much force as the threads can hold onto the wood. That's not always enough, and these nuts are a great way to tighten pieces of furniture (or similar items) beyond the natural strength of wood. It also looks pretty attractive. A hole must be drilled for nuts, and it is desirable to also countersink the larger flange of the nut. Softwood can warp enough to not need it, but hardwood certainly needs sinking for a clean look. The teeth prevent the nut from twisting when tightening and are very effective. Just note that they can also split wood, depending on how they get into the fibers and how prone they are to splitting. A set of 100 is a good amount for many projects and is reasonably priced. I was trying to find a metric version which SNUG doesn't seem to offer. Yes, I am one of those opponents who believe that metrics are the right way to go, even in the USA. But it doesn't matter with furniture, and inch screws are often easier to find at American hardware stores.
