Tivo - too many quirks

I had a Tivo a few years ago and given the high price of a DVR from a cable company I decided to try Tivo again. I've had mixed results. The software on the device is pretty good. The voice search feature is good and they keep adding new features. What annoys me is that he assigns his tuners to stations seemingly at random. Cable company DVRs have tuners assigned to the last two channels you watched. That way, if you switched back and forth, you could rewind each of them and see what you missed when you were on a different channel. Not Tivo. When I'm watching two programs (switching back and forth) each one is rarely assigned a tuner, so there's no buffer to rewind and see what I've missed. My first block died after 10 months. Tivo offered to replace it under warranty for a $50 fee. It seemed pretty bad - you have to pay to get a replacement. I told them to cancel my service and they relented on the fee. However, I was without a block for about a week until a new one was sent. As others have noted, the shape is unusual and not conducive to stacking with other components.
