Requires some workarounds for Mac usage

I'm using a MAC but with Bootcamp so I'm using Windows XP for my Polar app. (Of course, I'd love to see Polar join us in releasing a range of Mac-compatible software.) I was using the previous IR port, but I was having trouble transferring data from my S625X monitor. I now use the Cyclemeter app on my iPhone, which gives me everything my Garmin GPS and Polar products did except heart rate information. I was going to scrap my S625X but decided to give it another try with an updated IrDA adapter. The hardware is pretty basic, but the software comes on a mini-disc, which isn't compatible with Mac drives. Instead, I went to the PolarUSA website and downloaded what I thought were the correct drivers. It still didn't work and the Polar website didn't contain any useful information. By the way, Polars customer service is really good on these and other things, but I digress. I finally read another review that said it would work with the USB IrDA Sigma Tel IR-721 bridge driver. I googled and found it on the Sigmatel drivers and software page. The device appears to be working now, but it would be a lot easier if Polar had just developed an app for iPhone, or at least software that's directly compatible with Mac.

Pros
  • Kit includes adapter, installation disc and cables
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
