I bought this item and its larger 1/2" x 24" sibling a few months ago because I was zinc plating 22 " bolt installed. down through a 23" tall wall of machined 4x6s. So the depth is 21.5" with this bit and 16.5" with the 1/2" bit. I've had a lot of success with them both. Even though the flute is 19" full length (17-3/4" on a 1/2" bit), it's still important to only drive in about 6" at a time before removing the shavings and beat. because compressed wood can only creep upwards. Yes the job was tedious but both bits held up very well for hours of continuous drilling at 450rpm with a 7A 120VAC DW130. And this bit did more work than the 1/2" because I found it necessary to fully drill the deeper 3/8" pilot hole first before starting on the shallower 1/2" because of the Diameter of the hole The shavings from the smaller drill can never be pulled out, they fall into the larger hole with a thud and fall to the ground in the form of an increasingly thin point.
