Tl;dr: Not for beginners. Great set for experienced knitters. Great knitting needles! Large selection of larger crochet hooks for the experienced knitter, approx js sizes. I chose these because my existing kit was made out of Boyle brand aluminum and the smaller hooks in this kit turned out to be very similar. They appear to be aluminum; but the heads are a little rounder, the fingertips are a little longer and the finish isn't as smooth, which definitely affects the feel as the hook slides through the stitch. So I strongly do not recommend this for a beginner; but as an experienced knitter, I just relax the tension a bit. I haven't used the super chunky hooks yet, but I love that the size isn't just printed in ink, it's stamped directly onto the plastic on the back; That way I never have to worry about guessing the size of the hook when the color fades. Stitch markers are optional in my kit, but bright colors work well for working in spirals or creating endless scarves. However, I love yarn needles! Eyes of excellent size even for a double thread, beautiful tips and not afraid of bending!
