BIG WARNING! See at the end of the post. I'm a photographer who needs true color and the ability to straighten verticals and perspective. I wanted to try a curved screen, so I started my journey by swapping out my 27-inch iMac screen for a 34-inch instead of buying two monitors. from different sources. Many wrote "Wow!", "Amazing!", but that wasn't my first impression. After the first shot I wasn't thrilled. The screen is large, nicely curved, and easy to connect, but I found it quite dark and the contrast was low (white and black weren't entirely white or black, but rather bluish and greyish). I didn't want to change the factory settings as they say they calibrate are, but I started the setup by looking at the monitor presets (Standard, Cinema, ComfortView, Multimedia, Game, Color Temperature, and Custom Color). I've found that the ONLY preset that increases brightness and contrast to my liking is Game Mode, which turns on dynamic contrast. At the moment I'm happy that I was able to achieve true white and a good C contrast. Although a Digital Trends website reports that the contrast ratio of this monitor is lower than the previous model (3415). So I'm satisfied a day later and now have a picture that can be described as excellent. I don't understand others who say the monitor was stunning right out of the box. Maybe I have an anomaly, who knows. I don't have a photoshoot today but will post again if anything changes. Especially when answering the question of whether a curved monitor is suitable for architectural photography that requires straight verticals. I don't see any glare or dead pixels, by the way. Looks like I got lucky. You could spend more or less, but for the price it's probably a keeper. Update: DO NOT BUY DIRECTLY FROM DELL! My experience with Dell was terrible. They didn't update their website status at all, promised expedited shipping by the 6th (ordered December 16th), didn't tell me they had a problem with parts until I called and then said that I would not get it until the 20th. I called and canceled the order on the 9th but on the 11th I received an email that the monitor had been shipped. The price I paid was $849 but then there were two price drops to $799 and when I called and asked for a difference credit I was told the monitor would need to be delivered first then I would need to call and get one request credit. That's when I decided that enough is enough. I mentioned that all the representatives don't understand their English well, which annoyed me even more? I called today after receiving the 'your monitor has been sent' email and was told it was too late to cancel and they had no record of my Monday call to cancel. Yes! Meanwhile last Monday when I canceled my subscription (so I thought) I ordered the same monitor through Revain and received the monitor two days later. If you search for Dell reviews, you will see thousands and thousands of bad reviews about their customer service. My advice? Don't go near them to buy, go to another reputable seller like Revain.
