I don't have a sump but they are great for my bottom fed tank which has 2 plecos, an algae eater, 2 brown catfish and lots of poo. Luckily the poo is on the sand but I still have to pour too much water in to clean it. I make my own DIY cut to fit the PVC pipe, insert the sock into the pipe, insert the PVC pipe and sock into the bucket, attach to the bucket with a tie clip or whatever (whatever works). and let the water siphon through the sock to filter. Otherwise they would lose too much of their familiar environment, because they are just dirty fish. Bless them, I love them to pieces and would obviously do anything for them so I was really excited to see these socks. They are cool, durable and washable. Can't beat it Again, I'm not using a swamp, so this is an alternate rating for her! Hope that helps!
