When this gadget first came out, I switched from Melitta pour to this method and I really liked it - even as the tube failed the first time that same year i still love her. The plastic started to crackle like "alligator skin" and the seal didn't work. I called the company and a very nice person sent me a new tube, plunger and plug free of charge. When I asked him why not just ship the tube he told me it was best to ship the whole block to get the best possible seal. This is excellent customer service and shows that the company really cares about quality control. I used this replacement for a number of years before the seal failed again for no apparent reason as the plastic tube looks fine and I always drain and clean the unit promptly. after usage. When I called customer service this time I was rudely treated and told to just buy a rubber seal even after telling her I thought the hose might be the problem as the rubber seal still looks perfect. She obviously wasn't interested in my feedback and seemed eager to end the conversation. So I understand that this company is no longer interested in quality control because if you can make money selling spare parts, where is the incentive to make a product that works? endure? And by the test of time, I don't mean a coffee maker to pass on to my grandkids, but maybe something that will last, I don't know, even five years? At this price point for a first purchase, combined with the speed of replacing parts, not to mention the ridiculous price of filters, I just feel like there are less expensive ways to make a great cup of coffee, and with equipment that do not fall apart regularly. I will not buy this seal now. I'll switch to cold brewing or use pour overs. Goodbye Aeropress.
