While I have not surfed water in the 40s yet, I did just surf 55 deg water with 30 deg air temps with wind. Not even a hint of cold with these 5 mm gloves. They fit perfect. I'm even able to work my GoPro.I am perplexed that the thread on one glove started unraveling after about 10 hours of use. I used a lighter to attempt to stop it, but continued the next session. Hopefully the seam is glued tight, but this may hint at a problem developing after more use. Just seems like a design flaw that the threading is not glued.Update: Bought in Oct. Used Nov-Jan maybe 15-20 sessions total. They worked well as 5 mm should even as the water got down to 50 deg. However, this last weekend I surfed sub 50 deg water. Think it was down close to 47 deg. My fingers got cold quick first of three sessions over the weekend. After the session, I found that the thickness of the neoprene was worn out on part of the palm. Water easily diffused through that spot and filled the palm and then moved to the fingers. At $20 still a good price, but was hoping for 1 season. Seems a few tweaks like the threading issues and a more durable palm pad would help these. Gonna try another cheap pair for the rest of this season and look at something else next time.
