I have no idea what happened but this beautiful duvet was ruined when I took it out of the dryer on the first wash. I used the same settings as my duvet, normal and auto dried on low heat (the label says 'tumble dry low', which is basically what I did). I can't explain it, but it's like the cotton inside has fused together. He became paper thin and hard as stone. The material on the outside of the damaged batting also wrinkled terribly as can be seen in the photo. This only happened on 3 corners, the rest of the duvet was the perfect soft fluffy duvet I was expecting. I am so so disappointed as is my daughter. I ordered this so long ago, lost all the packaging and already washed it so I guess I can't return it (plus it will break my daughter's heart). What I did was roughly rub the crunchy bits together really hard and fast, take my fingers and loosen the batter completely. It still doesn't feel soft and fluffy like the rest of the blanket, it's still flat and not soft at all, but it can be used until I can convince my daughter that another unicorn blanket would be even better. I can't believe Amazon Basics came up with something so useless.
