Review on StarTech.com USB Powered Dual Port VGA KVM Switch - 2 Port USB VGA Cable KVM Switch with Remote Switch (SV211USB), Black by Lawrence Crespo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A great solution for those of us who have a home office and want to avoid the clutter of multiple monitors.

My new work laptop does not have a VGA output for video. My previous KVM switch was a dual VGA switch. I share a monitor between my home computer and my work laptop. I don't like cramped workspaces, so I don't want a dual-monitor setup. This KVM switch did it. It would be nice if you could select cables that don't have mic/speaker jacks because I don't need them. The sleek black button for switching between sources is really nice and works great. My home computer is running Windows 10 and my work laptop is running Windows 7. In Windows 10, a wired USB keyboard and wireless mouse work fine. The keyboard also works fine under Windows 7, but the mouse is very sensitive to the "load" of my laptop. Once the spinning disk (the only one in my house) stops, the cursor moves smoothly. But whenever I try to do too many things at once, the cursor gets choppy unless I plug the Logictech wireless receiver straight into the USB port. I have a wired USB mouse at work. I'm considering bringing it home to fix this problem and then just tossing the wireless mouse aside when I'm not working. If my company is moving to Windows 10 and solid state drives, this may not be an issue.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
