Had to be modified for GWS10-45PE grinder

Had to be modified for GWS10-45PE grinder Other reviewers are correct this cover will not fit all GWS angle grinders although the cover is all steel and very It's well made so I didn't want to return it. Here's how I modified the guard for the GWS10-45PE angle grinder: Photo 1: Without modification, the guard will not line up with the blade. Photo 2: The guard won't fit the grinder, so make a plastic spacer, 1-3/4" ID, 2-1/4" OD, 3/32" thick. I cut the inside diameter with a coping saw and then cut the OD with metal snips I used old Tupperware Photo 3: Cut/file the spacer to fit the face of the grinder Photo 4: Enlarge the guard bracket mounting hole and remove the paint around it Photo 5: Attach the guard firmly to the gasket and then tighten, install the 3/8 bolt and nut/washer through the guard bracket and then tighten the nut (this allows the washer to rest). er location). Place a marker around the shim to locate the shim on the bracket. Photo 6 - Using the new guard bracket shim, solder the shim to the bracket (I ha (be used an OA torch with a "0" tip and 1/8 low smoke bronze solder). At this point I attached the protective cover and it fit quite well. However, by bending it, I could cause it to not line up. I decided to install a bottom bracket for another grinder grip with a 3/8-16 hole. Photo 7: Strip the paint from the bottom of the shell where the bottom bracket goes. Form a 1/8" x 1" hot rolled L-bracket to the desired length and drill a 3/8" hole at the desired location in the mount for the grinder's 3/8" hole ( I used a vise and a drill). hammer to form an L on the defensive side). With the upper bracket secured, attach the lower bracket with a 3/8 screw, then hold the guard in place with a needle vise. Remove the guard from the grinder and make sure the bottom bracket is secured with a vise. Photo 8: Solder the bottom bracket to the railing, still secured with a vise. Photo 9: Final assembly with top and bottom brackets installed. Since this mod only has a 3/16" threaded engagement on the handle, I made a new handle, 1-1/4" wood dowel, 5" long, 3/8-16 x 6-1/2 long fully threaded bolt, 3/8" washers and nuts (2 each). I also replaced the little arrow on the slider with a 1/4" washer so it slides easier and holds up better. Photo 10: Final blade alignment, much better! got that Took all day but made the guard very secure with grinder and perfectly aligned I think it was worth it I give it 4 stars because the description is misleading as to which grinders it fits, other than that I like it very much Of course any modification of the tool is at your own risk For those of you with guards that fit angle grinders I would still do 3 things: 1) Remove the slider and replace it with a 1/4" washer. 2) Solder to the bottom bracket. This makes the guard extremely strong and won't bend at all. 3) Make a new grip as instructed. Doesn't seem like a safe stock. Without the guard (original design) the engagement with the grip thread is 3/ 8", which is normal.

Pros
  • Grinders
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
