Review on Wiistar Extractor Optical Splitter Converter by Jason Vigil

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Multiple audio ports was a nice bonus

Bought an HDMI switch and a very long HDMI to DVI cable only to find that my Hitachi 60V500A didn't seem to support any sound standard -over- DVI followed, which is pretty good. It also seems impossible to find an audio extractor that outputs audio from DVI and allows it to be plugged in elsewhere. So that was the next step in getting sound for the TV. I connected the adapter to a 3.5mm stereo jack which I connected to the TV using the red/white RCA cables. I then connected a spare RCA cable to the COAX connector and plugged it into the identical COAX connector on the Phillips soundbar. Then a few days later when I found the remote to turn on the soundbar, it sounds great. Wasn't quite planned in advance, but it works pretty well. I actually had to flip the switch from 5.1 to 2.1 so check it out before you think you have a bad one. There was no USB power adapter included. Without power, you not only get no audio, you also get no video. However, this is a small issue that might be solved by installing a larger extension cord.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

It does work. Just takes a reboot of all electronics after setup.
