Review on πŸ”§ Premium 8-Inch Marking Gauge Woodworking Tool Set: Wheel Marking Gauge & Dovetail Marking Jig by David Boone

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Many good things with one fatal flaw

A fatal error is that the blade retaining screw protrudes approximately 0.018 inch (0.46 mm) from the edge. Lower the cutting disc onto the table so that the marking width is set precisely. With a screw protrusion that would leave you a significant error. I've attached a photo in comparison to my other marking gauge (upper tool). It can be difficult to see. Other observations: The scale is rich in contrast and easy to read, but I still don't use the scale for precision work. My other tool has a nylon nut to adjust how easily it slides; nice but I wasn't really expecting it at this price point and was willing to sacrifice that minor inconvenience for a second tool. (It's nice to have extra marking gauges when re-marking multiple settings so you don't have to constantly reset your single gauge. My other tool had a V-groove running the length of the shank to ensure the turnbuckle didn't get damaged The Scale This tool doesn't but I don't use a scale so this error doesn't bother me but might be important to you Just so you know.. I didn't see it as a big deal The tool is well weighted and falls Good looking Would be a great secondary if it wasn't for the protruding screw.

Pros
  • Wheel Marker: An essential tool for marking precision seams. The wheel marker can also be used as a depth gauge. Quickly turning the knurled knobs simplifies and speeds up adjustment.
Cons
  • Compatibility
