Contains mineral oil - My face is pissed off

I wanted an easy base moisturizer that I could apply randomly in the middle of the night when I get up to urinate. And I didn't want to spend another $100 on what I thought was an extra moisturizer. I thought a classic old school brand like Ponds would be great. However, I used it and woke up the next day with severe irritation in the chin area. It looked like a rash and was patchy and bumpy; Given that 1) this is the COVID-19 mask era and 2) I recently had a schedule change, I thought this was the reason. However, I decided to take a break from this cream to see if anything had changed. A week later (the skin didn't improve but calmed down a bit) I used this cream for a few days. What mistake. My skin became very inflamed. It was like an acne rash and it started to burn and peel. I decided to check the label on this cream and saw that mineral oil was listed as the second ingredient. Later that week I went to my esthetician for a facial to see if what was happening to my face would help. She asked me what I changed in my routine because my skin looked like it was having an allergic reaction. I told her about this cream and that mineral oil is listed as the main ingredient. She said she couldn't believe any company was still making mineral oil-based creams in 2020. Because it's clearly terrible for your skin. It basically seals the skin and prevents moisture from penetrating it. However, I just wanted to tell anyone with skin like mine (pale, dry and sensitive) to use these with caution. I should note that I also use retinol and this may have contributed to the reaction here. But I've been using retinol for years and have had no problems with other moisturizers. However, I dropped it and wanted to share my thoughts in case anyone has other issues like mine.

Pros
  • Dermatologically tested and won't clog pores
Cons
  • Trivia
