These are plastic, which was a little disappointing, but they don't look plastic when you get them up and in place. These have a nice matte finish but still have a slight shine. They were not difficult to snap together. The hardest part was cutting the hole out so the ring could snap into place. I used these on a woven, almost burlap like fabric, that was slightly slick. It was difficult to draw the circle on this fabric without the circle getting out of whack. But I did all of them and only had one that almost didn't work but in the end it was fine. None broke, all snapped together and they have been hanging for a month of so. Pulled back and forth any number of times and everything is hanging in there and still looks nice.
