Review on πŸ”Š Vantec NBA-200U USB External 7.1 Channel Audio Adapter (Black) - Enhanced Sound Experience with USB Convenience by Nathan Tank

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Easy setup, full sound.

Like many other reviewers, I bought this unit because I wasn't happy with the audio adapter on my Windows 10 PC motherboard. My speakers support Dolby 5.1 and I wanted to use this feature. The price was right and it seemed like the right choice. Installation was easy. I first downloaded the driver from here: https://vantecusa.com/search_dl.php?keyword=NBA-200U. The downloaded file was compressed, so I had to decompress it in Windows Explorer: left click on the file (nba-200u_v8182166), right click on the file and select extract all. This will create the nba-200u_v8182166 directory. I ran the setup file in that directory and followed the menu prompts, including plugging the device into a USB port when prompted and connecting speakers. Then I restarted. After restarting, I opened the Windows 10 Control Panel, went to Hardware and Sound, and then to Manage Audio Devices. I selected "Speakers USB Multi-channel Audio Device". Then I clicked on "Setup". I followed the steps to set up 5.1 surround sound. I assume 7.1 will also work if your speakers support it. You may also need to choose a microphone. Without further adjustments, the sound is already a lot better than before, but I wanted to see how well I could do it. Tried different MP3 players and settings. What worked best for me was the VLC media player with a few tweaks. In VLC I clicked on "Tools" and then on "Effects & Filters". I turned on the compressor and also set the EQ to "Great Hall". Sounds pretty cool, MUCH better than the motherboard audio adapter I was using. As others have suggested, I covered the super bright blue LED with black tape.
