I discovered the need for this product after installing a flip up cover on my Toyota Tacoma. My old Chevrolet Colorado had a Swiss hatch that closed the tailgate and both rails, and in 11 years of operation, water has never entered the body. Hinged lids work very well but are not waterproof. If they're like mine and don't cover the tailgate, it's easy for water to seep around the tailgate because the manufacturers don't put a door seal around it. This product addresses that deficiency, which I believe truck manufacturers should address. The seller provides sealing material and everything necessary for a quality installation. Reading the reviews from those who were unhappy with the product, they seem to fall into two categories: either the product didn't stick and therefore didn't work, or there wasn't enough material to fix the customer's truck. I believe that most cases where the sealant doesn't stick or seal is due to the customer's fault of not following the instructions carefully. The seller clearly states the need for a thorough cleaning of the sealant application area with soap and water, and then also with alcohol. The seller even includes an alcohol pad that can be used for this purpose. Once the product has then been cut to size as shown in the photo essay provided for each of the approximately 15 or 16 trucks (choose yours) and correctly positioned according to the tests outlined in the instructions is the most important step the RELIABLE pressing Apply the adhesive sealant to the truck and allow to cure for up to 24 hours. For the cut-once-twice type, this won't work, and I suggest such buyers find an auto repair shop or truck supply company to do the installation for them. But in the second case of insufficient material, I believe these customers are right and hence only give four stars. When I bought my Tacoma, I found that "small" trucks like my old Colorado had been suffering from growing pains for the last decade. Today's Colorado is larger than the Silverado 10 years ago. Most of the people complaining about lack of material have big trucks: F-150, Silverado or Tundra. I believe the trucks may have gotten bigger since this seller started selling and these larger truck models may need an extra foot or two of sealant. If the cost of materials is too much to add even a foot or two, then maybe a few dollars more "big truck" product will cover the bill. In any case, I urge the seller to double check that ten feet is really enough for all larger models. I have no complaints after several weeks and many rainy days. This product effectively seals the tailgate area against water leaks even in heavy rain and the installation documentation, both in writing and especially the photos of each model available on the seller's website, is excellent. I recommend!
