Review on CURT 18100 Aluminum Tray Hitch Cargo Carrier: 60 x 20-Inch, 500 lbs Capacity, Foldable 2-in Shank for Added Convenience by Mike Wheeler

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not bad, but I did better.

I bought this with Revain Prime for next day delivery as I needed it for a 300 mile one way fishing trip. Received on time so delivery was good. Overall I like the carrier, but it does have a few wobble issues that other carriers might have. I installed it on my 2007 Dodge Nitro. R/TI made a modification to shorten the 2" steel tube by 1.5". Now it's much more stable. Basically I pressed the 2" pipe firmly against the weld for the folding mechanism, then marked it with a marker and used the same drill bit as the pin I used. I think 5/8". Then I got the hole straight drilled out enough for the pin to go through without too much trouble It has changed the world right here much much more I can still open the door with my 100 liter cooler as long as the cooler is centered on the bracket. It's tight but opens. Smaller coolers will probably open my Nitro's back door without too much trouble. Most of the play came from the 2" hose that fits into my hitch without just going very far. This was the first opportunity to introduce backlash. pin. Which creates even more wobbly - but I don't think it can be fixed, at least not without carrying it much more expensively. This carrier can be used without the folding mechanism and gets a lot tighter in the process, but at the expense of being close to your bumper. I could use it the same way with no problems, but other vehicles (namely cars) probably won't work. I've posted some nice photos of what I've done and what I've done to my car so take a look to get a better idea. I would buy this product again and do the same as above. no option. 5 stars if they would at least make the stretcher a little more stable. That would be 5 stars in this price range ($1.16 shipping). Everything is aluminum except for the 2" steel tubing and the little flat bars that you have to bolt on from the bottom. That makes it a lot lighter but still durable lol. I'm not sure if all holders have a wobble problem or if it's just this model. I'm willing to bet most will do until they go up in price. The instructions were really just an exploded view of the parts, nothing more. I'll post pics later of the adapter I made for this when I get the chance, pretty nifty bike platform 2 mount. I used 2 Delta Bike Hitch Pro 2 locking fork mounts which are also on Revain Prime.
