I use these gaskets in some of my old performance filters that are now to be used as mechanical micro filters. I have six planted tanks so weekly micron filtration is an important part of keeping the water columns in these tanks and their fauna and flora healthy. I use Aquaclear filters to micronize these tanks. The bottom pad is the sponge that comes with the filter. I then add one of these pads and then a Buon Vino 0.5 micron filter pad for fine filtration. This gives me the ability to remove particles as small as half a micron. It's even better than a diatomaceous earth filter.
