Review on Urban Riding & Cycle Touring Pedal - Shimano PD-T8000: Dual-Platform by Curtis Castillo

Great pedals for my commuter car

As I only have a utility bike I'm glad I found this pedal. I've tried the standard platforms as well as the clampless double-sided "bulbs" (with additional platforms that snap in when I need them) but they just didn't work for me and I kept switching them. With these PD-T8000s they are big and strong but relatively light! I was very impressed with them! Having a platform (which provides good traction with small screws) allows me to move quickly off a stop light or stop sign without worrying about positioning or a crash. Instead, I can focus on the vehicles around me. I've found that no matter which side comes up, my stance stays secure as I pick up speed. This applies regardless of whether I wear flip-flops or cleated shoes. Once I'm moving and settled, I can worry about flipping the pedals (if necessary). I also like that the reflector is built into the pedal. When I go to work it's often still dark and I need extra visibility. Additionally, due to traffic and location, pedal reflectors are best at catching the attention of drivers approaching from behind. If my tail light ever goes out, at least I'll have some peace of mind.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some bugs
