Complaints that they are too thin or don't do their job well are probably caused by people not mounting them properly. Doors don't close perfectly. Some parts of the door abut the frame before others. Even the brief instructions say to first find the point where the door meets the frame and place the trim there. One tip on how to do this is to take a sheet of paper (or even plastic wrap), close the door and, firmly but not firmly, press against the frame and move the sheet around the door gap until You find it a place where it won't slip. That's where you put the little pillow. Also, some doors aren't very rigid and you may need to find extra space to add a cushion to completely eliminate door noise. It still knocks slightly when the door is closed, but it's much quieter than without it. .
