Review on ๐Ÿงช Apera Instruments Salt20 Portable Salinity Meter by Deelo Sylvester

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It looked great, but the readings are not standardized.

Works great, has a calibration solution too! I hope it continues to work and is correct. PPM so it's not that accurate as you're getting readings like 0.6 PPT when you might have 630ppm. Otherwise it works well and very fast, comes in a nice case with instructions and batteries. Okay, this meter doesn't read like other TDS meters. The conversion factor ms/cm is 0.5, so the values are different from those of other measuring devices. Personally I think it's a bit useless for pool water because that value isn't what you need to read for PPM if # is false. Now I can convert it with MS/CM, but if the value itself is inaccurate, what's the point if I have to do another conversion myself after using the meter? when the TDS of the entire pool was 3800. The pool dropped to 3000ppm and the meter was still over 4.0ppm. It showed my tap water as 0.2ppm when the tap water had a TDS of 110ppm. To be honest I understand that the company has a different conversion factor, but if the number it gives you can't be directly converted to other numbers, then why would you use this counter? I'm waiting for a new calibration solution that I'm told can fix the entire gauge.

Pros
  • Large LCD display with dual temperature/PPT readouts and reminders of completed calibrations and stable readings
Cons
  • Legacy model
