I wanted to use Helicoil to repair stripped threads in my aluminum caliper. I tried them on the recommendation of a friend. In general, a strong steel case is much more reliable than a "springy" spiral insert. In addition, the top of the insert is flanged for a secure pull-out stop. Another advantage is that the outside diameter of the insert is smaller than with a helical coil. So if it fails (which seems unlikely), you can drill it out and start over without wasting much material. Spiral coils require a larger size, which wastes a lot of base material every time. As for the kit: I consider myself handy but certainly not a machinist and I think the whole process was pretty easy. The kit includes everything you need to drill, tap, insert and install inserts. Contains 5 inserts. If you really love anal sex, you can put a drop of red Loctite (not included) on the male threads of the insert for reassurance. Great product, definitely recommend. product website [.]
