Review on Logan 5000 ๐Ÿ”ช 8-Ply Beveled Mat Cutter by Michelle Langley

Logan 5000 mat cutter option?

So I finally got some more experience cutting carpet and settled on a Logan 5000, supposedly the perfect 4/8 ply cutter. I've researched the Logan website and elsewhere and I like the "interact light" feature as well as the easy to change blade holder for 4 or 8 ply mats. I even watched a video demo of the 5000 on the Logan website so I had a pretty good idea of the model 5000's features and operation. So my new Logan 5000 cutter arrived today and it's NOT the same as the one I bought I bought. watched all the time. First, it has no light to turn on the blade. The? Not too big of a deal, but still confusing. Then the blade holder is NOT a reversible, easy-to-change 4-ply/8-ply design, which was pretty much the feature I was interested in for this cutter. While the mount is still magnetic on this model (the blade sticks to the mount and is held in place with a screw in the cutter body), it is single-sided and only holds one blade. It has an adjustment screw to adjust the blade depth instead of the dual blade holder described on the "normal" Logan 5000. The 5000 mat knife on the Logan website says you should only use 270 double bevel blades, so I bought a big pack. 270s This 5000 model states that only 271 individual bevel knives can be used! At least for 8-layer mats. The instructions and packaging say it's an "8 ply mat cutter" and there is no mention on the box or anywhere in the meager instructions for cutting 4 ply mats, which is my main use, only occasionally 8-ply. This cutter is not what I expected. There seem to be several different variations of the Logan 5000 flashlight, or at least several variations of the same flashlight. Maybe this was intended for a different market? I don't know, but I'm at least a little disappointed. With all that being said, I put a 270 double bevel blade in the router and dialed in the depth as best I could for a 4-ply mat (not as easy as you think). The cutter works just as well as my original 2000 cutter that came with my Logan 301, so I guess I'll keep the new carpet cutter anyway. It's more of a hassle for me than it's worth to send back, wait for money and then risk getting the same thing on a repeat order. I think everything will be fine in the end, but buyers beware! You may not get what you expect when you order this cutter!

Pros
  • Equipped with a depth-adjustable magnetic blade magazine.
Cons
  • drilling package.
