We had a friendly tramp who had kittens in the cold weather. She allowed us to bring her and her kittens inside. One of them was a tiny white shorty. When the kittens were about 4 weeks old I started giving them food and water for a week and all but the little one ate kitten food and drank and were also breastfed. This little girl refused to even try kitten food. When she was 12 weeks old, she still refused to feed the kittens. All her siblings were twice her size. Her mother stopped breastfeeding. I bought a CMR Second Step and a feeding syringe. She swallowed it. I was so happy that I didn't have to force-feed her. She loves it. I couldn't get her to suck it for quite some time. She finally puts it on her plate, which was quite an achievement. She still refuses to eat kitten food or even drink water so I will feed her as long as she needs because it's the only way to get water. She'll eat chicken and ground beef, so I have a spoiled little cat to cook for. I love seeing her blossom and her energy. She is very playful and follows me everywhere. She is still tiny, but no longer bony or frail. Just a little fat thing.
